Kentucky Native JD Shelburne Electrifies Kentucky State Fair on Opening Night

LOUISVILLE, KY — August 20, 2026 — Kentucky native and country music artist JD Shelburne electrified the Kentucky State Fair on opening night, taking the stage as part of the Texas Roadhouse Concert Series and opening for Cooper Alan.

The performance marked a special milestone for Shelburne, who returned to the Kentucky State Fair for his sixth appearance on the fair’s main stage. In previous years, Shelburne has shared the stage with some of country music’s most celebrated acts, including Exile and Montgomery Gentry. In 2023, he also performed alongside the legendary Oak Ridge Boys during what would be their 50th and final appearance at the Kentucky State Fair.

From the moment Shelburne stepped onstage, the energy from the crowd was undeniable. His 45-minute set featured fan favorites and original songs including “Back Road Kind of Love,” “Every Girl You Are,” and “Straight From Kentucky.” He closed the performance with one of his favorite songs, “Kryptonite,” leaving the crowd on its feet and singing along.

The response from the Kentucky State Fair crowd was overwhelming, with fans bringing an incredible energy throughout the entire performance.

Following the show, Shelburne spent approximately an hour and a half meeting fans and signing autographs, many of whom traveled from across the country to see him perform at the fair.

“It was an unforgettable night,” said Shelburne. “Honestly, I’d put this in my top five shows of all time. To walk onto that stage on opening night of the Kentucky State Fair, in my home state, and feel that kind of energy from the crowd was something I’ll never forget. I’m so thankful to everyone who came out, sang along, and stayed afterward to say hello. I can’t wait to come back.”

For Shelburne, the night was more than another performance. It was a celebration of his Kentucky roots and a full-circle moment on one of the state’s biggest stages.

After more than 3,000 live performances, multiple appearances at the Kentucky State Fair, a Grand Ole Opry debut, charting music, and opening slots for more than 70 national acts, Shelburne continues to build his career while staying closely connected to the Kentucky fans who have supported him from the beginning.
