(December 12th, 2024): Kentucky Native JD Shelburne found his way back to his hometown for a big celebration the week of Thanksgiving.
Taylorsville native and country artist JD Shelburne teamed up with the Addie and Baylor Kirchgessner Foundation to give back to the youth in the community that he treasures.
On Monday, Nov. 25, and Tuesday, Nov. 26, Shelburne and the foundation visited Taylorsville Elementary School to give out 1,800 free books, which is three each for all 600 students. At the request of the students, Shelburne graciously accepted to autograph the books, and even 30-40 shoes, for those who requested.
On Tuesday, after the last of the students were able to pick out their favorite three books, the school held an assembly to personally thank Shelburne and Matt and Lauren Kirchgessner.
TES Principal Sarah Steele addressed the students before the official presentation in the school gym.
“I went to school with JD, and I am so thankful that he picked us for this opportunity. We are just so thankful,” said Steele.
Lauren then addressed the students and staff.
“I hope that you take these three books home and read them over your long break over Thanksgiving. And I want to add that you are the best behaved kids I’ve ever met, so I appreciate you all for being so well-behaved; give yourself a round of applause,” said Lauren.
Shelburne then took the time to thank the students for having him.
“This was one of my best experiences, being able to see you guys, thank you. When I’m not playing music, I’m reading to my son, Jax, who is 4 years old, almost every night. So take advantage of those books on Thanksgiving break, and I hope see you guys soon. Thank you guys for letting me do this,” said Shelburne.
Steele then thanked Shelburne and the Kirchgessners.
“We just wanted to say thank you so much for selecting us, and giving back to us, said Steele.
